An article recently published from RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors), about big data and its role in the real estate sector sparked our interest. The article is a summary of a recent panel of representatives from companies starting to use big data. Discussions focused on how data is currently used from commercial real estate valuation to infrastructure delivery. Panel members discussed what is next for professionals working across the real estate lifecycle and the importance of big data.
Access to data, that is accurate and instantly available is becoming more and more relevant in this day and age. When the panel was asked “what are the top three things to think about in terms of big data?” they were unanimous in their response to the industry, “Free the data!”. With the use of so many devices and speed of the internet, we are simply not willing to wait anymore. We also have very little patience for error, thus making the way in which we record, retrieve and store data imperative to running a successful business.
